Are you learning the lessons from your past life chapters? It’s never too late. Start now.

Hi lovelies,

I hope you all had a great Mother’s Day and if you are a mommy yourself, happy Mother’s Day to you. You rock <3

I spent last weekend in North Carolina for my brother’s graduation from his MBA program (I’m such a proud older sis, it’s unbelievable:)), so I got to spend some time with my family, including my mom, dad, and aunt who flew in from Europe to celebrate my brother. It was really sweet and fun!

On my flight back to NYC, I began thinking about life chapters: graduations, marriages, career shifts, break-ups, moves, spiritual milestones… the list is really endless. All of our lives are filled with these different chapters, each one carrying important lessons and developments. However, unless we consciously put attention to them, it’s easy to take them for granted or treat them like “just another thing” on our to-do list.

Without reflection it’s easy to miss the lessons.

In today's post, I’d like to encourage you to revisit the different chapters in your life and call into consciousness not only what happened, but what you learned and how you evolved. Establishing appreciation for the course your life has taken is extremely powerful and really raises your awareness for all of the wonderful things you have done and accomplished in your life already.

This is a big component when it comes to creating pride, confidence, and trust in who you are today and what is possible for you in the future.  Especially if you have a tendency to only see the things you haven’t achieved yet or the things you still want to do, it is really important to spend some time reflecting on the past and honoring it properly.

To help you dissect your chapters, I’d like to offer you 3 sets of questions so that you can begin this inquiry into your own life and create greater clarity and appreciation for the various chapters in your life that are -consciously or unconsciously- impacting who you are today.

Question 1: What were some key milestones in your life? When did your life change paths? Make a list of 5-10 chapters.

Question 2: For each chapter, think about how you felt during that time. Try to come up with 1-2 words that describe you during that time.

Question 3: For each chapter, what did you learn about yourself that you’d like to take with you into the next chapters of your life? What were the lessons? These can be hard skills (“I learned how to give great presentations”) but also ways of being in the world (“I learned that if I approach things in a playful way, life becomes much easier”).

If you get stuck or sucked into thinking “I don’t know” or “I don’t think I learned anything,” get together with a friend or someone you trust and go through this list together. Sometimes the lessons aren’t apparent, but I promise you they are there.

In the comments below, I’d love to hear from you: What was a significant milestone for you and what was the lesson? Share your proudest moments and biggest chapters with us, so we can all celebrate you together… it becomes even more powerful if you share it :)

LOVE,

Caroline
